Martin Short not attending Emmys

By Cassandra Szklarski, The Canadian Press

TORONTO - Emmy nominee Martin Short is skipping this weekend's awards bash in the wake of his wife's death.

A publicist for the Canadian comic says Short is not attending the annual TV party, where he's nominated for a rare dramatic performance on the legal thriller "Damages."

Short's partner of 30 years, retired actress Nancy Dolman, died earlier this week at age 58. The spokeswoman said there would be no funeral service.

The funnyman had been expected to appear at the televised Emmy show, where he's up for a best supporting actor trophy for his turn as a duplicitous lawyer on the Glenn Close drama, which aired in Canada on Showcase.

Earlier this year, Short expressed delight at being recognized for his foray into new territory.

"This is a first," Short said last month while vacationing in Ontario's cottage country.

"It's fun, to be in a category that's completely unique to what you traditionally do."

Short faces competition from John Slattery of "Mad Men", Aaron Paul of "Breaking Bad," Andre Braugher of "Men of a Certain Age" and "Lost" stars Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson.

Other Canadians up for trophies include fellow SCTV alum Catherine O'Hara, who is nominated for a best supporting actress trophy for her turn as a kindly aunt in the TV movie, "Temple Grandin," which aired on HBO Canada.

She's up against "Temple Grandin" co-star Julia Ormond, Kathy Bates for "Alice," and Brenda Vaccaro and Susan Sarandon from "You Don't Know Jack."

Canadian director Jeremy Podeswa, along with co-director David Nutter, is up for helming one of the final episodes of Steven Spielberg's 10-part miniseries, "The Pacific." The sprawling Second World War epic is up for a leading 24 trophies.

Podeswa and Nutter face competition from fellow "Pacific" director Tim Van Patten, Mick Jackson for "Temple Grandin," Barry Levinson for "You Don't Know Jack," and Bob Balaban for "Georgia O'Keeffe."

Last weekend, Canadian musician Dave Pierce won the Emmy for outstanding music direction for his work on the Winter Games opening ceremony on NBC.

The Primetime Emmy Awards air Sunday on CTV and NBC.

Lindsay out of rehab

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Fresh out of rehab and a 13-day stint in jail, Lindsay Lohan returned to Twitter on Thursday -- and blasted the paparazzi who have been following her every move.

"Clearly.. Paparazzi shouldn't be allowed to take pictures or video while someone's driving or at a stop light. 4every1's sake," Lohan said in her first Tweet since the eve of being locked up on July 20.

Lohan, who was released on Tuesday after just 23 days of a court-ordered 90-day rehabilitation program, has also got back behind the wheel, after the suspension of her driving license for a 2007 drunk driving and cocaine possession charge.

The 24-year-old actress got her license back on Wednesday and was soon seen driving a Maserati sports car and picking up friends after midnight in Los Angeles.

Lohan, whose promising acting career in movies like "Freaky Friday" and "Mean Girls" has been eclipsed since 2007 by headlines about hard partying, has been trailed by photographers since her release.

She is also reported to have been inundated with offers, including interviews and celebrity endorsements.

One New York-area radio station has offered Lohan and her mother $1 million to host a morning radio talk show together that would cover fashion tips and entertainment news.

However, Lohan was ordered by a judge on Wednesday to remain in Los Angeles until November 1 to undergo twice weekly drug and alcohol testing, and continue drug and behavioral therapy.

Lohan's legal troubles have delayed shooting on her next movie in which she will play 1970s porn star Linda Lovelace. She was last in movie theaters with the 2007 flop "I Know Who Killed Me."

Kelly Osbourne Slams drugs rumour

Kelly Osbourne. (WENN.COM)

Kelly Osbourne has hinted she'll be looking for hundreds of thousands of dollars from a U.S. tabloid over new reports she's back on drugs.

The reality TV star's mum Sharon has already threatened legal action against the editors of In Touch magazine over a negative article about her kids - and now daughter Kelly has taken to Twitter.com to hint she's planning her own suit.

After hearing about the piece on Tuesday, Osbourne, who checked into rehab to control her past drug abuse, took to Twitter and write, "(I'm) in shock that In Touch is printing a untrue story about (Jack) and I. Can't believe it, we have both worked too hard on ourselves for this b.s. (bulls**t)."

She followed this on Wednesday, by adding, "Thanx in touch for your bulls**t story, looks like I will be taking all my friends on Holliday (sic) courtesy of you! You are really pathetic!

"I also love that originally the story was that (brother) jack and I were drinking together they really are scraping the barrel!"

And she assures fans the article is false: "According to in touch I have 'fallen off the wagon'. I just want to let my fans know it's compleat (sic) bs! Thank you 4 your support I love you!"

The story breaks as Osbourne begins work on her first major movie role in Should've Been Romeo.
