Katy Perry
Teenage Dream
(Capitol)

Katy Perry is more than just a teenage dream.

The California pop phenom is so hot these days that one Canadian fan recently tried to pass himself off as a Sun Media writer to get an advance copy of her sophomore CD from her label EMI.

"I would be interested in writing a detailed track-by-track review for Katy's new summer smash album," wrote the would-be scammer, to whom I will refer as John (since it's his name). Nice try, John (though between you and me, the "summer smash" line was a bit much).

A threatening e-mail put a stop to him. But any artist whose fans will attempt fraud to hear her music deserves a song-by-song review, don't you think? Besides, even Perry admits that Teenage Dream - which goes on sale Tuesday - will decide whether the provocative pop cutie-pie is a flash in the pan or a superstar in the flesh.

So, without further ado, here's the lowdown. Oh, and John? Katy says hi - in your dreams.

Teenage Dream | 3:47

Katy wants to go "all the way tonight" with a boy who likes her "without any makeup." Maybe this is about fiance Russell Brand (who probably just wants the makeup for himself). In any case, this chunky midtempo rocker is a pretty mediocre opener.

Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) | 3:50

A morning-after-the-night-before tale set to a clangy guitar, a lightly bouncy beat, oscillating synths - and a sax solo. A slight improvement, but even so, I Kissed Another Girl it is not.

California Gurls | 3:54

Snoop Dogg drizzles his shizzle over Perry's ubiquitous fun-loving funk-pop response to Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind. If you aren't already addicted to (or sick of) this, congrats on finally coming out of that coma.

Firework | 3:47

Perry breaks out the lung-busting vocals for a string-topped disco-rock anthem. "Boom, boom, boom," she wails. "Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon." Blah, blah, blah.

Peacock | 3:51

"I wanna see your peacock," chants Katy over Mickey's cheerleader-rock beat. Don't get it? Don't worry; she repeats the last syllable ad nauseum. Enjoy, parents.

Circle the Drain | 4:32

A stabblng guitar riff, a disco-rock beat, big reverberating vocals and angry, expletive-laced lyrics directed at a drug-abusing lover. This '80s throwback is easily the edgiest cut.

The One That Got Away | 3:47

Katy sings "in another life, I would be your girl," as the beat thumps and the strings soar. I presume this sweet pop ballad is not about the same guy as Circle the Drain.

E.T. | 3:26

She will, she will, rock you - over Queen's classic stomp-stomp-clap beat and some electronic throbbing. And yes, it does appear to be a love song to an alien.

Who am I Living For? | 4:08

Cue the dry-ice fog - it's time for the slow-burning electro-ballad. "Don't let the greatness get you down," advises Katy. Way to stay humble.

Pearl | 4:07

A low-impact electro torcher, complete with throbbing synths and pulsing beat. Katy does Eurythmics, basically.

Hummingbird Heartbeat | 3:32

Another guitar-driven '80s-style pop-rocker - but with lines such as, "You make me feel like I'm losing my virginity," and "The taste of your honey is so sweet." Birds and bees, get it?

Not Like the Movies | 4:01

The mandatory orchestrated piano-ballad closer. Expect to hear it playing over the closing credits of a teen-romance movie any second.

FINAL VERDICT: A few obvious singles, a couple of rockers, a few ballads, some dance cuts - it certainly covers the bases. And even if it doesn't hit any artistic or creative home runs, it'll still top the charts next week. And probably the week after that too. Clearly, Perry is living the dream.

Dickenson says Gaga should be spanked

Janice Dickinson and Lady Gaga (WENN.COM)

Former model-turned-U.S. reality TV queen Janice Dickinson has slammed Lady Gaga for flippant comments the pop star made about drugs in a recent Vanity Fair article.

Dickinson was outraged when the Paparazzi star admitted to being an "occasional" drug user in the September issue of the publication - because she fears her nonchalant attitude to narcotics could lead her young fans to try cocaine and heroin.

Dickinson tells Life & Style magazine, "As a recovering addict who knows how dangerous occasional use is, I can think of no reason for Gaga to reveal this to her young audience.

"She is a f**king idiot. The way she mentioned cocaine, I think she should really get spanked.

"You can damage and hurt kids. I'm appalled."

*** Janice looks like a science experiment that went wrong, she should be spanked for too much plastic on her face! ****

Katy Perry talks about Snoop Dog

Pop provocateur Katy Perry said she wanted to make a West Coast anthem in response to Jay-Z's New York City love letter, Empire State of Mind, with her hit single, California Gurls, so who better to include on the song than original California rapper Snoop Dogg?

"I bought (Snoop's hit song) Gin and Juice when I moved to Los Angeles, when I was finally allowed to buy CDs on my own," said Perry, who had a strict Christian upbringing in nearby Santa Barbara.

"I was on Wikipedia looking up who's West Coast, who would be perfect to put on the song ... and I was just putting in Snoop lyrics, naturally.

"When I put 'Snoop Doggy Dogg on the stereo' in the second verse, I was like, 'Of course, I'm going to reach out to him and see if he would love to be on the song.'

"I guess I put that little bait in the lyrics so that maybe (Snoop) would feel very appreciated. Because I think it makes the song more dimensional and it makes it actually West Coast.

"And he is very West Coast. He's bullet-proof. He hung out with all those people. He hung out with Tupac (Shakur). He continues to impress the public because he's got so much versatility. From Drop It Like It's Hot to his music video for Sensual Seduction to letting us bury him in the sand (in the California Gurls video), he's still as cool as he was back in Gin and Juice."

Brand treats Perry ‘like a queen’

Katy Perry's upcoming nuptials to British former bad boy-comedian-actor Russell Brand follow him proposing to her in India earlier this year.

"I'd like to get married this year but he just had his movie (Get Him To The Greek) come out so he has all that to do and this record (Teenage Dream) seems like it's going to start another sleepless year," Perry said.

So what do her parents, born-again Pentecostal ministers, think of the former heroin and sex addict and recovering alcoholic?

"They didn't really know him. They always give people the benefit of the doubt. Kind of like me. I really try and trust people and give them the benefit of the doubt. And it's up to them to mess it up. And my parents have had their fair share of wild days (mom dated Jimi Hendrix, dad dropped acid with Timothy Leary). And I think my father, where he comes from, he knows that everybody is worth a second chance and Russell is really turning himself around to be a stand-up man. That's why I'm marrying him. And he treats me like a queen."

The couple also recently got matching tattoos on their biceps in ancient Sanskrit which means, "Go with the flow."

"That's our motto," she said. "We're a bit cheesy -- as all couples in love are. We decided to get it after all the whole engagement in India, which was really beautiful and wonderful. He'd never had a tattoo and I kind of pressured him into doing it. We have like a handshake with it."

Britney does cameo on Glee

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Just days after Britney Spears stopped by the "Glee" set to film her cameo for Season 2, there already appears to be talk of her returning to McKinley High.

On Saturday, at the Creative Arts Emmys in Los Angeles, Access Hollywood asked co-creator Ryan Murphy if fans can expect to see even more of the "Circus" singer, and Ryan suggested it is likely.

"Probably, yeah... probably," he said.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Britney hit the "Glee" set earlier in the week to film her guest role, including one scene alongside the show's own Brittany, played by Heather Morris. While on set, the pop princess spent time with Ryan, and at Saturday's event, where "Glee" was up for several awards, he told Access what a delight it was to have her around.

"Britney came this week and shot, and I got to hang out with Britney," Ryan said. "She was sweet, she was great."

"I'm now best friends with Britney apparently," Ryan added, jokingly.

Ryan, who also created "Nip/Tuck," said he's still surprised by the popularity of his show about a high school glee club.

"I never thought it would work at all," he said. "I thought it was very good, and I thought the cast was great, but I thought the idea was kind of particular. I'm shocked."

Catch the season premiere of "Glee" on September 21 at 8 PM on FOX, and the Britney episode on Sept. 28.
